ABOUT FMA

Founded in 2013 and proudly based in Beltsville, Maryland, Fitness Martial Arts (FMA) has been a cornerstone of discipline, empowerment, and community strength. With over 35 years of combined instructional experience, our leadership specializes in Tang Soo Do, Jiu-Jitsu, and Kali, delivering time-tested martial arts traditions with a modern and inclusive approach.

We are more than a dojo — we are a safe space for families, youth, and adults to grow in mind, body, and spirit. Our instructors are committed to instilling confidence, discipline, and self-respect, while building a culture of safety, inclusiveness, and protection.

" I've been a student at FMA for just over 2 years. I am an older woman who was seeking self-defense classes. I am getting that and a whole lot more. I am now a brown belt. I want to have my first degree black belt within the next 1-1/2 years. These are photos when I received my brown belt in February 2021 and my 1st degree blue (and black belt) in September 2020. I'm moving right along with the support of Mr. Ray, his staff and my classmates. It's a family-friendly atmosphere with some added martial arts discipline. It's not hard-core. You are primarily learning from a 6th degree black belt --Ray Abrams, the owner. His instructors are mostly young students of his that are 2nd degree black belts and striving for higher degreed belts. I love the challenge of being in class with those who have higher belts than I do. It makes me want to keep going! There's more than martial arts going on here, after-care, homework help, summer classes. Instruction is for those 2years and UP! I am very happy here! Many thanks to Ray, Jade and the other instructors "
